Merlin M. Meyer, 90, of Vincennes passed away Saturday January 9, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born February 27, 1919 in Vincennes to the late Carl and Mara (Morgan) Meyer. He married Lillian (Spangle) Meyer December 14, 1939 and she preceded him in death February 12, 2006. Merlin and Lillian lived in Evansville from 1942 till 1944 where he worked at the Faultless Caster Company until he was called to duty in the US Navy. He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a Machinist Mate First Class. Since that time, he has operated the family melon farm outside Vincennes on Old Decker Road. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by a son, David Meyer of Mt. Pleasant, MI, grandson, Patrick Meyer, of Vincennes, granddaughter Jennifer Gonzales, of West Lafayette and two great grandsons, Zakk and Josh Meyer. He was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Evon.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday January 13, 2010 in Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home 505 Main Street with the Rev.Dr. Kate Lambertson oficiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites performed by the All Weather Firing Squad. Friends are invited to visit and share memories of Merlin with the family on Tuesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Relief Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
